Councilman Joe "Rude Boy" Szafran's son Joe The Third is a Community Service Officer (CSO) with the Bensalem Police Department. CSOs can not be regular cops because they don't meet the standards. CSOs are paid much less than regular police. Wouldn't Rude Boy Joe of Council like for his kid Joe The Third to become a regular cop and thus get a big pay raise? Could this have anything to do with Councilman Szafran voting against the reappointment of Steve Moran to the position of Director of Public Safety in January 2006? Councilman Szafran's other son works for State Senator Tomlinson. Nearly everyone in the councilman's family has a government job. Also, Councilman Szafran's brother in law Harry Kramer is President of the Bensalem School Board. This is patronage and nepotism run amuck.
Speaking of nepotism, Councilman Ed "Parking Lot" Kisselback's son Edward Junior is a high ranking officer in the Bensalem Police Department. Ed Junior was a witness in a certain honorable police officer's federal court case and he had a great deal of difficulty being truthful on the witness stand. Councilman Joe "Weasel" Pilieri's daughter works for the township in the township building.
No wonder they don't advertise new job openings at the township. They need to reserve these positions for relatives of republican politicians, cronies, and other patronage. Let the Bensalem Republicans running for re-election this year show us where they advertised all recently opened township positions.
