A RATHER STRANGE BUT IMPORTANT QUESTION

I know to those of you who "had it easy" with the power being out only for a day, or not at all, this may seem like a strange question, but I have to ask it, in light of the havoc Sandy caused. I am wondering, if anyone who due to having lost their power for nearly a week or more, will be compensated/assisted in some way for having lost the perishable food items they had in their refrigerator? I am asking this not just because this happened to me, but it happened to a great many others in this area, and they had to go out and purchase food they more than likely cannot afford, but must have.
