"The use of technology including drones is not inherently problematic for privacy rights, but it can be abused," said ACLU spokesman Andy Hoover. "So, for that ...reason, it's really important that strong laws and strong policies accompany any use of drones."
Hoover said the crafts should be used only to collect evidence related to specific instances of criminal wrongdoing, which should be accompanied by a warrant, or in emergencies.
Leaders at the ACLU also believe that any photographs or videos recorded by a drone that are not "related to the target" should be deleted within 24 hours, Hoover said.
